The Getaway Films

The ask

Create an identity and launch North America’s premiere automotive & aviation film production company that’s as fun as the films themselves.

Broke the rules to launch an irreverent production company that only shoots what drives and flies.

Strategy

The well-established conventions of the automotive and aviation industries create a clearly defined definition of what “looks” right. But automotive companies aren’t looking to work with “the cool kids.” When it comes to production, they hire people who deliver on every detail to make the craft visible in the final product, and can make the process fun, like it should be when shooting things that drives and flies.

Solution

Rather than trying to stand out by fitting in to what car companies present themselves, we chose to just stand out, with a decisive brand identity and personality. Leading to an unexpected, but totally appropriate way to hydrate a production company called “The Getaway”.

The Human Machine

To showcase the Getaway’s sophisticated production capabilities and stunt coordination, we wrote a short film that served as a love letter to the experience of driving and flying and posing the question, if autonomous driving vehicles would take away the conduit to experiencing one of humanities deepest desires: the feeling of flying.

Not made with AI

Nothing against AI, but what’s captured in camera is really tough to beat. Like Really. To expose the intricacies that are extremely hard to create with AI powered film generation, we intentionally embraced the tension and beauty that in camera imperfection brings.

A convergence of contrast

The logotype and surrounding design system merges the strength of brutalist design aesthetics with the creativity and human touch of hand-drawn elements. It aims to inject a sense of boldness, intrigue, and artistic expression into an industry which often takes the opposite approach. The mixture of styles symbolizes The Getaway’s approach to crafting cinematic narratives that are both gritty and visually captivating.

The Agent

Every heist needs a great getaway. And every getaway needs a mastermind. When it came to creating a symbol for The heist, we avoided meaningless typographic treatments, abstract shapes claiming to mean something, and geometic symbols that are all too common in the automotive industry, Enter the agent – the strong and silent mascot that sleuths behind the scenes to ensure that a production experience with The Getaway is executed in a way that only someone on James Bond level could achieve.

Designed in range of disguises in a variety of poses, (70 for curious types), its 1960’s inspired aesthetic harkens back to the golden era of special agent espionage films.
